The Model’s Craic in the Box, which is being run by MC John Colleary while we’re closed, is taking part in Cairde with a gig on Saturday 11th July.  A great Festival needs a great line-up so John has invited back two of Craic’s favourites: Jarlath Regan (The Panel, RTE) and Andrew Stanley (I Dare Ya! RTE).

Having performed worldwide at the Montreal, Adelaide, Melbourne and Edinburgh Comedy Festivals and becoming a regular fixture at the Kilkenny Cat Laughs Festival, Andrew Stanley is one of the top comics working the Irish Circuit today. Whether it’s performing as Resident MC in numerous clubs around the country, one of which is the legendary Comedy Cellar in Dublin, or as a quality act in his own right Andrew is always high energy and quick witted  keeping every audience thoroughly entertained.

Jarlath Regan is the new face of RTE’s most popular comedy show “The Panel” and the fastest rising star of Irish comedy. Within two years of quiting his day job Regan’s original brand of observational humour and twisted greeting cards have made him a firm favourite among comedy anoraks.

John Colleary will be no stranger to Sligo audiences than he normally is! A compère of unrivalled panache and wit, he has been known to tell the occasional funny story and will be on hand to ensure your comfort and enjoyment on the night.

Tickets are still just €10 and can be purchased in advance from Cairde by calling: 071 – 917 0431, or you can take your chance on the door from 9.30pm. Gig stars at 10pm and goes till late with a full bar- upstairs in McGarrigles.

Soundtrack for a Day

We’re delighted to have been invited by Cairde Festival to present our arts and disability projects as part of the Catfish Club, a new addition to this year’s Cairde programme, hich runs from the 6th – 12th July.  The Catfish Club,  which will take place on Tuesday 7th July  from 7 – 10 pm,  has been inspired by Cairde’s long running affiliation with Heart n Soul and their Beautiful Octopus Club in London.  After the Festival The Catfish Club will become a regular feature in Sligo’s cultural diary showcasing music, theatre, dance and art by artists with disabilities.

The inaugural Sligo club night will feature The Model’s Touch the Sky performance group who will perform a new work HAUNT!  As ghosts step in and out of paintings by Jack B Yeats, you will be led on a guided tour of a haunted mansion.  Touch the Sky’s work challenges traditional forms of drama. Using theatrical device, they draw their unique inspiration from experiencing and interpreting The Niland Collection and contemporary art exhibitions at The Model.

The night will also feature a performance by The Karl Burke Sound Orchestra.  Sound artist Karl Burke worked over a number of months with a dynamic group of individuals to create a SoundTrack for a Day.  The workshops took place in the forest at Union Wood and the results of this unique collaboration can be witnessed at The Catfish Club.

We are also delighted to present a very special exhibition by Karl Burke, to be launched on Monday 6th July at 32-34 High Street, Sligo as part of Model Offsite for Cairde.  The exhibition SoundTrack for a Day will be opened by artist Grace Weir.

SoundTrack for a Day  will be open 10.00 am  – 5.00 pm, Tuesday to Saturday, 7th – 11th July 2009.

The Karl Burke Sound Project was made possible by the kind support of the Arts Council, HSE West – Learning Disability Service, Sligo County Council and Sligo Borough Council, in particular John Truelove.

Yeats Festival Season looking for volunteers to take part in the Street Team Campaign

Do you like talking to people? Are you proud of Sligo? Are you enthusiastic and positive? If so the Yeats Fest Street Team need your help.

The Yeats Festival Season is presented by some of Sligo’s key cultural organisations who have come together to celebrate the creativity of the Yeats family, most especially brothers W.B and Jack B. Yeats, and to highlight the special inspiration provided by Sligo for their work.

This summer the Festival Season is seeking to work with a group of enthusiastic volunteers who would be interested in joining the Yeats Festival Street Team.   All new festivals need a lot of extra hard work and dedication at the start  from everyone involved, and if this one is to succeed your help is needed.  Maybe you are a secondary school student looking to fill hours for your presidents award? Or a college student looking to learn more about tourism and marketing and the arts over the summer? Or someone who is just enthusiastic about Sligo and has some time to spare? If so you could help make the Yeats Fest a success and help attract tourism to Sligo.

To sign up or to learn more simply drop Catherine an email to streetteam@yeatsfest.com with your Name, Age, and availability during the period July 16th to August 15th. Anyone with time to spare, be it an hour or a day is welcome and needed.

For the Festival Season, The Model is mounting an exhibition of Jack Yeats work, entitled The Sligo Paintings, and it will run for the season’s duration ; 24th July – 15th August.
